Admission Policy

 

1. Introduction

This policy states Macao Polytechnic Institute’s principles and procedures for selecting local and overseas applicants for its degree programmes. The policy informs, and is the framework for, admission requirements of individual degree programmes. Details of the degree programmes can be found on the MPI website at http://www.ipm.edu.mo.

 

2. Admission Requirements for Bachelor Programmes
2.1 Secondary School Graduates (Form 6)

According to Article 28 of the Higher Education Law of Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR), article nº3, applicants being Grade 12 graduate or equivalent and upon successful completion of the entrance examination will be eligible to further his/her studies in a Bachelor degree programme offered by MPI.

According to article 28 of the Higher Education Law of MSAR, article nº9, applicants of age 25 or above and with special ability conditions need not comply with the above mentioned point 1. Upon successful completion of the entrance examination, the applicant will be eligible to further his/her studies in a Bachelor degree programme offered by MPI. Thus, those who reach the age of 25 before September 1st will also be eligible to participate in the entrance examination.


Note:
According to article 4 of Decree-Law 26/2003, the participants who have completed their secondary studies outside of Macao, need the recognition of the Committee for Recognition of Degrees, Diplomas, Curricula and Disciplines and Academic Equivalence before they are eligible to register.

2.2 Have passed the medical examination.

 

3. Decision Making and Offers

The Schools are responsible for setting the admission criteria and admission quota of their own programmes. For each programme, applicants will be ranked based on their scores in the admission examination and/or interview. Based on the admission quota set by the School and the score ranking of applicants, the Registry will make offers to the most eligible applicants of each programme. For overseas applicants, their offer will be considered based on the admission requirements of the recognised tertiary institution in the local countries.

For student recruitment in Mainland China, applicants must participate in the National College Entrance Examination (NCEE) of the current year. Concerning the Arts programmes, applicants will be ranked based on their scores in the admission examination and interview organised by MPI. Based on the admission quota set by the Schools and the score ranking of applicants, the Registry will make offers to the most eligible applicants of each programme.

For non-arts programmes, applicants will be ranked based on their NCEE scores divided by the first level standard of admission of their own province / municipality / autonomous region and choice of programmes. Based on the admission quota set by the Schools and the score ranking of applicants, the Registry will make offers to the most eligible applicants of each programme.

 

4. Appeals

Applicants can make appeal requests within 3 working days after the release of admission results. Upon a request, the Registry will re-check the answer paper and marks of the applicant. If no errors are found, the Registry will arrange an interview with the applicant. The Registry staff will review the question paper, answer paper and model answer with the applicant, and give responses to his/her enquiries. A written statement will be made as the record of the interview.

 

5. Governance and Monitoring

A Student Admissions Group, chaired by the President, is responsible for major issues regarding student recruitment. This Student Admission Group is to review policies and guidelines for admitting students (both local and overseas); to liaise with schools in relating to admission criteria, procedures and examinations to be taken by applicants; to plan promotion programmes for student recruitment; to review policies and regulations for student assessment and examination matters; to oversee the conduct and administration of admission examinations; and to deal with all other matters relating to student admission and assessment.
